QuoteIt! version 3.1
QuoteIt! allows you to have a database of quotes integrated with your forum. Users submit quotes that can then be voted on by the other users, using your choice of two rating systems. The average installation will show a random quote on the forum home page, but you can include it on any vBulletin page or on your portal home page. If you'd like to see a demo, go to forums.monkeycrap.com. Features: Random Quote - a random quote can be shown on any vBulletin powered page - the administrator can set a default rating threshold that quotes must meet before showing up as the random quote - a new random quote can be chosen at a specific interval of time, to reduce server load Quote Database - quotes can be searched, filtered, and sorted by many different criteria - quotes have a "context" field that can be turned on or off to include more information about the quote - quotes can be embedded in posts with bbcode - each post and private message now has a "Submit to Quotes" link that allows users to quote things said on your forum more easily Quote Ratings System - quotes can be rated either plus/minus or on a scale from 1 to 5 - quotes below a certain total score or average score can be filtered out Quote Management - quotes can either be automatically approved or moderated - the quote moderation que is like the que for posts, enabling the moderation of several quotes at once - usergroup permissions are used for adding, editing, deleting, rating and viewing quotes - most actions use AJAX to avoid page reloads Don't forget to click install! Currently known problems are listed here. The files needed to edit the included images are attached to this post. This hack is based on QuoteIt! 1.2, originally by magnus. The "submit post" feature was inspired by an addon by CtrlAltDel. Older versions (no longer in development): QuoteIt! 3 for vBulletin 3.5.x | QuoteIt! 2.03 for vBulletin 3.0.x Show Your Support

the problem with the template+css is that it doesn't fit in with the default vbulletin style, it doesn't respect things like cellspacing and cellpadding. There's also a lot of useless margin and padding going on in the css. |

for some reason I cannot get the quoter to appear in all forum despite me changing the hook to global start. Also, on the forum index, the quoter shows BB codes but on my homepage (vba) it doesn't show the BB codes any idea how to fix it?

Ole_Chilli - You'd probably just have to edit some of the quote templates. I've never used that hack though, so you might want to ask its creator.
El_Muerte - It doesn't use cellspacing or cellpadding because it's all one cell. It still uses the vBulletin alternating colors and width. If you can clean up the CSS, please do. That gave me a huge headache. |

thepub - One thing I neglected to mention in the instructions: Make sure the execution order on the new plugin is set higher than five.
El_Muerte - Run this query (replacing $TP with your table prefix) and tell me what it says: Code:
SELECT * FROM $TPdatastore WHERE title = "quote_settings" |

Thanks! Can you tell me where and how I would do this? |

I don't use the default datastore, I use the APC datastore class. Maybe that's the issue?

thepub - Just edit the plugin that you moved to global_start.
El_Muerte - Possibly. Do you know if it unserializes things automatically? |

yes I think it does. It calls register in the Datastore class without a 3rd argument, so the auto detect will be used.
Why don't you simply address the datastore through the api: Code:
// get data, only needed once $vbulletin->datastore->fetch(array("mykey")); // read data from: $vbulletin->mykey; // store data: build_datastore("mykey", $mydata, 2); // 2 means automatically detect for unserialization |

well capt... i am going to be the first to admit my mistake..... i ASSUMED... that the quote hack i already had.., was the same code... so as i went through each template, and saw that the comment was in the template code, i didnt bother to paste over it.. (tryign to save time).... then to top it off... i tried to do something else.. broke the site.. but i got it back.....
long story short...., your hack work great now.... i uninstalled all the code from the older hack... and re-installed the 3.0... it works fine... my own lesson?? read the damn instructions!!!! INSTALLED |

Version 3.1 has been released. It has some minor bug fixes, including compatibility with datastore caching, better redirection, and better support for vBadvanced and global random quotes.
Well, because I didn't know about that. |
