I have released an updated version of this hack (version 2.0.1), this version fixes some security issues with this hack. All version prior to this one allow users to insert html in their shouts, this can cause problems with them using html that breaks the site layout or malicious javascript. Download the new zip file (vBshout_fixed.zip) and upload the new vbshout.php file to patch/upgrade. If you want to manual instructions they are in the zip file, in the file bugfixes.txt

Second Staff update

I've uploaded a new version of this hack, dubbed '2.0.2'. This one should fix the html injection issues without breaking special characters. To upgrade, download the new zip file and upload the new vbshout.php file.

Please note that this only fixes the html injection issues. I do not use this hack on my own forum (although I've tested this on a client's board) so I will not be fixing the server load issues. I suggest you do not install this hack if you can't deal with the extra server load, as it's rather intensive.

Well, been a while since I've been to vb.org and released anything, thought i'd break the trend and whip up something quick while I have a little spare time.

A shoutbox as you would assume, a very simple one to start off with, but does include AJAX Technology, which pushes the shoutbox 1 step closer to live, messages from other people will appear with no refreshing, and so will yours that you post

A preview is below, i'd estimate a 50 second installation max

No there is no way, the way it stands now, for a user to turn it off.

Tried searching with no luck, similies are not appearing in our vBShout. They are in the right directory. Anyone familiar with this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for an update. Now, if only upgrading didn't wipe out the Top Shouters and other stats...

Also, I just installed the latest version on 3.6.4 and upon posting the first two shouts, I recieved error emails from my site, but the shouts were posted...

Ive found so much numerous bugs in both versions..
Such as the codes. people can change the font size to 99 and you can't do anything about it.. Unless you fix the vbshout.php which Ive done

Does anyone have a clue as to how I could turn this thing off at a preset time?

I have a video chat that I only have open from 8-midnight, so I'd like to turn this off at 8PM automatically and leave a link directing my visitors to the other chat.

Id use Schdule task
and somehow use a code to run it :cross-eyed:

I know how to schedule a task if someone shows me what to schedule it to do!

you would need to alter the topions table and then rebuild the bit fields.

I'm completely unfamiliar with mysql - if I had a query, or a line to copy and paste, I could do it, but that's the extent of my skill in that arena.

As an anti-spam I want to allow only those users who have more than 25 posts to shout in the shout-box .. Is there a way to do it?
I am not familiar with MYSQL though I know a little PHP .. any help?
