Hack Info
Name: SigmaChat Complete Integration & Authentication Add-on
Version: 2.0.0
Author: Chris Duerr, RaiderSoft
First Introduced: 28 Mar. 2004
Last Modified: 15 Nov. 2004
Compatability: vBulletin 3.0.x

Overview
This addon allows you to fully integrate a SigmaChat Java? Chat Room (free or paid service; Platinum or Enterprise required for full functionality) with your vBulletin 3.0.x forum system, including the ability to authenticate access via your vBulletin forum system, and provide a "Who's Chatting" page list showing who is currently logged into your chat room.

Features
  • Chat room integrates via a single link in your vBulletin forum navigation bar, or via a forum link.
  • Chat room may be placed in it's own vBulletin page, and/or as a popup window.
  • Automatic user login option.
  • Remote authentication script allows you to authenticate access into your chat room via your vBulletin user database.
  • Complete control over which user groups are allowed access, allowed administrative access, or denied access.
  • Real time "Who's Chatting" page allows you to show which users are currently in your chat room by interfacing with SigmaChat's "Who's Online Module" system.
  • Makes use of vBulletin's template and phrase system for easy modification, and multilingual operation.
  • Show who is chatting from your forums main page
  • Automatic chat integration with your vBulletin user profiles, email, PM, etc..
Installation
Installation will require between 15 to 30 minutes of your time depending upon your proficiency in installing addons to vBulletin. Download the attached 'sigmachat.zip' file, and load the INSTALL.html file in your web browser for detailed instructions.

RaiderSoft may be able to assist you with installation should you require it. Please contact us for details.

Support
Support is provided by RaiderSoft for this script provided you have a Platinum or Enterprise SigmaChat account. Read the included instructions for details. I'll be happy to answer questions here as well regarding the script.

Hey Grimm, I haven't changed /updated anything on my end with the integration, but it would seem that the changes to sigmachat on your end have fixed the login problem I had previously reported.

Hi all, just bought my platinum to use the authentication script.

I have setup the usergroups access to chat in the global settings but wondered if this works if a member subscribes and becomes a member in a paid secondary user group.

I have the feeling only primary groups are recognised as I added my paid group to a user name and they could not access the chat.

What's the best way of only allowing paid members access?

thanking you all

Brilliant :squareeyed:

I've got the "who's online" link working a treat but is there a way I can get it so it would show "users in chat" without you having to actually click on the "who's online" link??

To be put into the "What's Going On?" bit of the forum :ermm:

It's not working correctly for me (Almost but not quite)

First in your globals phrase additions you spelled Sigma wrong in sigmchat_refresh_msg it should be sigmachat_refresh_msg

Also in the whos online my screen comes up wrong, saying there is 0 people in chat when there is someone in there and it also says I am a user when I am an adminstrator (Usergroup 6)

If no one is in chat it shows..
Currently -1 user(s) chatting. (With one person in there it shows 0, with two is shows 1 user chatting with 3 it shows 2 etc..)

Please see the attached images for more details. As you can see when I am loging in it is verifying me as an administrator.

Alsi is there any way to verify me the whos online is only being updated every 2 minutes? I just dont want to get a huge bill for whos online when the script is set to two minutes.

Thanks for the hack and the great chat! I just upgraded to Enterprise last week.

Hi scottct1,

OK -- yes it was a typo in the installation file, which will be corrected shortly. Thanks!

The Who's Chatting link should have been fixed in this release -- did you reupload all of the new files? If so, can you provide me with a link to your forum so I can check it out?

We don't charge for Who's Chatting hits anymore, so there is no worry there

The url to the site is http://www.satelliteguys.us (The Who Chatting Link is found under the QUICK LINKS in the navigation bar.)

Thats cool to hear that the Whos Chatting hits is free now.

I didn't know the who's chatting hits were free now. Woohoo! My users have been asking me a ton, but because we have high traffic (in our forums, not necessarily chat room), I was a bit weery.

Is it possible to use secondary usergroups yet to define chat mods? I have some "normal" users who would be great chat mods, and creating a secondary group for this would be really nice and easy.

OK --

I just posted (8:36 EST, 11/11/04) an update to the script with some bug fixes and new functionality:

1. The Who's Chatting link from the Quick Links pulldown is now much smarter and more tightly integrated with the forum system.
2. The Who's Chatting link from the Quick Links pulldown now indicates the subroom a user is in.
3. Authentication now checks member group ID's per popular request.

That one is working well.

Now I just need to figure out how to put it above my forums listing, it is up there now but the columns throw it off a bit this way when we have chats I dont need to update my navagation bar letting people know a chats in progress.

Thats not a problem with your hack at all, just a design issue on my end!

Thanks again!
