vRewrite - SEOed URLs for vBulletin

About

vRewrite is an advance but simple system to rewrite vB's URLs. The rewrite system uses preg_match_all and str_replace to rewrite the URLs. It will rewrite any URLs that are dynamic ex: showthread.php?t= to /the-forum/title-of-the-forum-id.html. Why? SEs (Search Engines) rate results based on filename. Not only that, but most SEs give a "boost" to static URLs (what we do here) versus dynamic URLs. vRewrite accomplishes both of this, for all URLs that a search engine (or a guest) will see.

Installation

Please download vRewrite.zip and read install.html for more information on how to install it.

Requirements

vRewrite assumes that you are using Apache with the mod_rewrite module enabled, and running vBulletin 3.5.x. However, if you ask for support here on IIS' module or on vBulletin 3.0.x - I will be more then happy to assist you.

I've spent many hours working and perfecting vRewrite. The only thing I ask you to do is if you use it, please keep the link back. If you wish to put it in your style instead, simply remove or comment out that line. However, if you use vRewrite you MUST link back. That is the only thing I ask.

01/05/06 - Updated ZIP to include a fix for boards running a table prefix. You do not need to upgrade unless you previously had SQL errors. You can upgrade by importing the product and choose "Allow Overwrite".

Ok. I have done everything right. I ran a check by a vbulletin expert but he said it was ok. It does not work for me. The url`s stay the same.

Can somebody please help me?

When I installed this mod, it works fine but when I go to showthread, it loses the css styling.

Oh yeh, in your instructions you have:

3) In forumdisplay, showthread, standard_error find:
$headinclude
Add before that:
<base href="$vboptions[bburl]/" />

Step #3 should also be done to MemberInfo (template) if you want the settings for members/username-id.html to work

hello,

i followed all the instructions, added .htaccess to my forum's root directory, enabled vbrewrite, but i am still getting 404 pages. the url is rewritten, but the page cannot be found.

what do i do next?

Resolved: AllowOverride was set to None in httpd.conf. I created a new <Directory> for my forum home and added "AllowOverride All" to it. Restarted apache and voila!

I searched for our forum on Yahoo and a lot of our older posts are indexed in this format:

http://blah.com/forum/printthread.php?threadid=2365

When I click on this link, however, the URL is not rewritten. Is this an old URL format that Yahoo has cached? If so, how do I account for it in .htaccess?

I do have printthread.php enabled in vRewrite.

Hello,

Seems to work nice. But i have my layout images of the board in /forum/img

When i turn the mod on, i lost the layout. It just cant find the pictures aymore.

Any idea how to solve ?
