BlackBerry Development is typically difficult because of the amount of different operating systems / carriers / phones.

There are 2 aspects to this plugin

1) The vBulletin code
2) The BlackBerry App

If you have issues, you can provide this thread with the following:
  1. Your Forum URL
  2. Make and Model of your BlackBerry
  3. Operating System Version (4.5+)
  4. Your Provider
  5. The problem you are having

This app has been tested on ALL simulators for BlackBerrys with OS 4.5+ Installed. (Pearl, Curve, Bold, Bold 2, Gemini, Storm, Storm 2etc.. )

vBulletin Install

- Download the attached vBulletin Code
- Unzip to your forum root directory.
- There will be one file in your root named mobiforum.php and a new directory called m_functions
- Find the config file in /m_functions/config.php and edit it to your needs
- Change the icon "forum_large_icon.png" to your forum icon.

BlackBerry Install

OS 4.5+ and OS 4.7 Storm / Storm 2

Use your BlackBerry browser to surf to:

http://www.BerryBlab.com/

If you can't see our mobile download page, surf to

http://www.BerryBlab.com/MobileDevice.aspx

Once installed:

- Open the software
- Press the "BlackBerry Key" and select "Add Forum"
- Type in the full http://address.com/ to your forum, (where you extracted your zip file), including backslash.

That should be it. Your forum should be listed and you can now surf using your blackberry, natively. Use the "options" menu when you are viewing your forum to sign in.

This software comes with an Update Check for your BlackBerry, so you should only need to install it once on your phone and it will check for Updates everytime you connect with it.

You will (as a forum administrator) have to keep up with the updates on the vBulletin side however.

Demo Forums using BerryBlab

http://www.BerryBlab.com/Network.aspx

Note: Your typical data usage charges apply when using this.

I will do my best to supply as much support as possible for all your phone types / forums.

Please make sure you post a LINK to your forum so that I can test it on my own BlackBerry as well as add it to the list above.

As requested! High res photo's.

I have not tried on Pearl hardware yet, so it may or may not work.

On the simulator, it's hard to really tell how great it will be. The screen on the Pearl is fairly small, so it pushes a lot of text to 3 or even 5 lines.

You may also end up with "Bad DNS" error with the pearl - The Reason is because you have a "space" in the URL - sometimes after you put ".com" with the auto fill feature it puts a space after it - not sure why. i will add that to my list of stuff to debug.
Well you asked for testing so testing i shall do :-) - i am aware the pearl screen is a little small but its worth a try even if the result is that it wont work i can at least give you a valuable contribution and when this mod is finished try and get forum members with the right phones to install it :-)

Awesome!

Actually, I just ran it on the Simulator right now and it doesn't look that bad to be honest. I forgot the screen is smaller, but the resolution is also smaller..making the text actually "bigger"

Check it out.. from my forum ..

I have installed this mod to my site...

Site: http://www.BlackBerrySpot.com/forum/
Device: BB 8350i Curve
Carrier: Boost - iden network same as Nextel
OS: 4.6.1.204

I notice that is works pretty good out of the gate. I do not get any errors, but I do notice that My images on my forum do not show up. Instead the code to the images are seen. my site has free themes, ringtones, and so on. 40% of my traffic in done from members BB in order to D/L OTA's. Seeing that my device is iden there is no APN setting, well according to the information provided in this thread. I have my mods and other admins trying it out as well and i gave strict instructions to give feedback base on the format above. This way i can relate correct info back to you.

If nothing else i would like for you to use my site as a sample url for demo. Especially since you can grab free themes through OTA.

That is in the add later as the developer is trying to get a stable Mod then will start to tweak it all.

I actually have coded the "images" part of the App already, just haven't released it.

The issue I have with it right now is two fold:

1) It adds loading time to the threads - which I don't really know how to deal with it can potentially make a small 10kb thread over 100kb's (depending on the amount of pictures), which we all know, in Mobile-Universe, it isn't the greatest to have large datastreams.

2) I'm not sure if I should load the images when you are highlighting a post, or before the entire thread loads.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, and I will gladly enable this feature.

Here's an example of what the Images would look like in threads.

Obviously I would make them "clickable" so that you could view the full image if desired.

I can probably release this in the next version if you guys want to test it out.

Tonight?

How I have it setup right now is that it puts an "image" icon in the post, and when your scroll over it, it automatically loads the image, so it doesn't actually load all the images when you load the threads. I guess I could also make an "option" that makes loading when scrolling over the images turned off / on ?

This only works for images with the [IMG] tags at the moment, but I also am working on the Attachments as well.

I had to reboot my server there for a moment, which may give you a NullPointer exception right now (when checking for a new version)

I will have to code in so that if my server goes down it doesn't throw this.

Give it a moment and it will be back up.
