setting variables in plugin (overwriting global variables) .. long story
I will explain what I am trying to accomplish first.
We have 1 database, and 1 site with two urls pointing to it. The content, style, etc. is the same. The only differenece is the ORDER in which things are listed. x5world.com/forums.php x3world.com/forums.php to accomplish this in 3.0.x, init.php was modified with the following code: Otherwise everything defaults to X5 world. I attempt to write a plugin to duplicate this, and it does not work. i had it run as a global init in 3.5 as a plugin, and the plug in system was activated. Any ideas? ps if you ask why, here are the answers: 1) it makes the X3 owners feel just as important as the X5 owners 2) it makes the X3 bbtitle dominant over the X5 title if logging in via x3world 3) separates cookies for two entry points All content, and site access is equivalent and same. (no hidden forums, etc). in fact, we don't have any hidden forums! however, it maintains a nice 'equality' between different sets of users. thanks for any help! |

> Any ideas?
Yes. You are breaking the license agreement by doing so, becasue you are displaying different content (even if it is just the Title). You need 2 licenses to do so. |

how is the content different?
the titles are the same. the content is the same. the forums are the same. its all the same. the forums are all identical as well as their titles and content.. the content is identical throughout. this meets the exact letter of the license for the vbulletin license. please point out exactly where we are displaying different content? show me one example where the FORUM content is different?? check out: x5world.com/forums.php and x3world.com/forums.php -- all the same. |

The board title is different, the site title is different, the home url is different, cookies are different.
I can't give an official quote, but IMHO this therefore qualifies as 2 installations. |

from jake bunce:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103150 1. Your forum is accessable from multiple domains but the content is the same for each link. This is OK and does not require multiple licenses. My site is an example of a multi-domain setup that is allowed: http://www.mscclan.com/forum/ http://www.macsubculture.com/forum/ http://www.mac-gamer.com/forum/ Notice how each domain points to exactly the same content. 2. Your forum is accessable from multiple domains but each domain shows a different forum style. This is OK and does not require multiple licenses. 3. Your forum is accessable from multiple domains and your forums are configured to show/hide certain forums based on the domain. This is not OK and requires an active vBulletin license for each domain. In this situation the forums appear to have separate content thereby making them separate forums in the eyes of the license agreement. Your forum content needs to be the same for each domain in order to qualify as a single forum. The underlying question here is, do the different links appear as separate forums? If so then multiple licenses are required. Separating content and forum styles by using subforums and forumdisplay links within a single domain is allowed because that functionality is built-in to vBulletin. 1) forum is the same for each link 2) forum style is identical. links identical. content identical. no two installs no two databases no forums hidden forums in EXACT same order thanks for your help, though. |

It would be the case without them. But as said, this is just my interpretation of the license agreement and you might want to get an official answer on that. |
