I think there was something like this released for vB2, but don't quote me on that.

Can you imagine the load time on a thread with something like this enabled, though?

Yes, I can. That's whay you would set a very low max file size... And not everybody has the sense to use it anyways.

I am interested in this too.

Although a user wouldn't have to upload the image to the server...they could use photobucket or host it elsewhere to keep the load off the server.

I can do this easily by creating a hidden profile field in the edit Options requesting an URL address. Then I would add a call in a background tag, but only if the field contains text.
