Yes, you can rip it off. Just make sure the spring that holds it there doesn't fly into your eye because that thing will go flying.

...although after that:
1. Throw out the disk because it won't be as protected
2. Throw out the disk drive too because it's useless; get a USB flash drive. Small capacities can be had for cheap, especially on eBay.

LMAO!!!
Although it is a legacy device, please DO NOT call it useless. Just like DOS the Floppy Drive is by far THE last known effort to be able to restore a failed or crashed computer when all the other bells and whistles are non functional.

Think about this scenario. Your motherboard's BIOS has become corrupted...guess what the only way it'll be for you to upgrade it or possibly restore it....

The trusty old "useless" floppy drive and a few good old "outdated" DOS commands.

So give us oldschoolers a break and give some respect to the floppy drive and our friend DOS.

You could burn it and buy a new computer that doesn't have an ancient times expiry date

Any BIOS made in the last five years can boot from a CD. Even my old Pentium 200 MMX motherboard can do it. Recent motherboards can even boot from standard USB Mass Storage-compliant devices like those flash drives.

One CD-R is probably cheaper than one floppy disk. You might be able to burn to a CD-RW too and have it boot from that.

The only time I thought I'd need an FDD is to update my BIOS, but new systems can flash inside Windows.
