Private Sub Forums and custom Moderation
Hi all,
My vb 3.0.7 software does not support my requested setup, so im really hoping one of you guys can help me. Im setting up about 10 private, password protected sub forums with categories and would like to appoint a different Moderator to each sub forum. These Moderators will need to do the following: 1: Control approval and activation of new members (for 1 specific sub forum). 2: Edit and delete posts when needed. 3: Post announcements etc. 4: Ban and unban users. I need them to be able to do all of this without having full access to admincp. Got a feeling this is not going to be possible and I will end up running the whole thing myself, which will be a monster sized task, but thought I would ask here first ? Regards Mick |

It is possible:
- Create forums - Assign Moderators to these forums - No public permissions to forums - Setup a Public Joinable Group, with new member aproval by Groupleader, assign the Moderator(s) as Groupleaders. |

AdminCP->Usergroups->Add New Usergroup.
Add the Usergroup like any other (secondary) Usergroup, but set "Public (Joinable) Custom Usergroups" to Yes. Now on the Usergroup Manager screen, select "Add Forumleader" for the new created Usergroup. Add all Moderators for the specific forum that this usergroup will control as Groupleader. |

Thanks Marco,
I should have explained further that im trying to get the initial registration request to go to the moderator of that particular group / forum, instead of having the initial request coming to me. I think your suggestion works only after a new member has joined the site via me as administrator, then they go into their cp to join a specific group or forum, which sends the request to the leader. If I cannot have the initial website registration request going elsewhere then I will have to forward the request to the leader for their approval and then have it sent back to me so that I can activate it. I dont think I have done a good job of explaining this, but what I wanted was to give someone a sub forum so that they can control who joins, gets banned and delete posts without any involvement from me at all. Cheers Mick btw, the guys at vb said this cannot be done and suggested I asked here |

If you allow registration with moderation and give the Registered Users group only very limited forum viewing permissions, then the rest can be done after registration.

Thanks for all the help.
I think im going to leave it as it is and do the following: 1: Set up a password protected sub forum with categories and approve a moderator for simple tasks like editing/ deleting posts. 2: Dont allow that moderator to do anything outside of their sub forum. 3: Users of password protected sub forums will not be able to view or post anywhere else except the sub forum they are given a password to. Obviously this is all on the basis that I will have to receive, approve and activate the initial joining request. Cheers |
