Mod for FlashChat - make messages area more clear

Gents,

Lately, I am trying to find a decent chat system for my forums site. I initially installed ZT's vBChat, which is OK, if you are not bothered by the screen refresh.

I then found, purchased and installed FlashChat. Very flashy, and quite interesting, but it leaves a lot to be desired, as far as the integration with vB is concerned and in the user interface. I guess one can't do much about the way the program integrates with vB, but I was wondering if someone has come up with a better way of showing the messages. To be more specific, the posted messages appear as shown in the picture below:



As you can see, the names, posted time and message are all listed in a very confusing way. I would prefer to have a tabular form, where the time/username is shown in the left column and the message posted in the right one.

I've spend some time playing around with the code, especially message.php in FlashChat/inc/classes, with no great results. This class (or whatever you call it), is used by the program to show all the messages on the screen (like the room name, the user name etc.). Given that I have no experience in programming these things, I was stuck.

To see what I would be looking for, have a look at how I modified ZT's vBChat to show the messages in a two-column layout, in the picture below.



Any help on that, would be appreciated.
