custom userfields or database manipulation?

Hi all

I'm writing something, where I am going to need additional userfields.
Since I could easily just use the custom userfields function of vBulletin, that's not a problem. But is it a *good* solution?

Don't the custom userfields add another query to each page (or wherever they're used)?
Would it be better coded if I just added those fields to the user table?

It's easier to use custom fields, but in my opinion, you should only use them when you wish to have it editable by users (User CP) or/and admins (Admin CP) alot. If not, do it another way if possible.

Can't say I know if they add another query to each page.
