the need for a vB2.x.x database cleanup hack.. no, tool.
Ok after days of wondering how to avoid actually going through my entire db and matching up original install tables to my db tables and removing any changes made since original install, I have put 1+1 together and thought up this little butt saver. (mind you I cannot take credit, I will.. but it really goes to the vB dev team)
Im thinking of a tool where you can run to remove any changes, any addons, any mods, anything NOT from the original vB install, and STILL save all you good stuff. The tool would have to keep all user info, all threads /posts /pms /forums, all original admin settings, moderators, templates, everything stored off an original install. Why? Well if your a hacker like me (and im assuming most are) you could attempt to backtrack all past installed hacks. Hell, you can do that from your usercp as long as you clicked install (thats what its there for) but could you remove specific db changes made in certain hacks after upgrading and rehacking? (cuz you may not want some of these hacks anymore, or you want updated hacks) Maybe your wanting to clean start, but you have all these DB mods. This hack.. no tool is already being developed for vB3, so why not have it for vB2? Dont believe me? Snyx always looks before backing up (prison rules) Check out Wayne Luke's comment on this, check this post on vb.com. I believe the numbers of users on vB2 will out weight vB3 users for sometime. Plus I know how many times I have ran into needed a tool exact to this, as im sure many others have. So I mean im not spinning around and pointing any fingers here telling anyone to specific to make this. I just wanted to raise the idea, or.. plant the seed. Ideas? Comments? Interests? Anything? -Myles :bandit: |

yeah, that will be a much used script i think
i already thought of such a script but it's not totally what i want, because some hacks i will port over without losingt the entries in the db for it.... |

so like the backup tool in the CP, you should be able to select specific tables to save, and ones to remove maybe? I know I wouldnt wanna lose all my stars info, or karma comments,.
