great tool for mp3 peer2peer
i'm not big fan of peer2peer tools because alot of spyware and advertisements etc. but i found one program (i'm not updated with those programs because i'm not interested on swapping files and also i have a 10Gb cap on my internet connection) that is simply amasing:
http://www.winmx.com no spyware or advertising and the interface is great. also they have over 5millions members online? it beats the napster easy... try it and let me know what you think. |

I used Grokster to be honest, I don't download too much because I usually don't have too much timr to search for music. The worst part is the ads, but other from that it is a pretty decent program.

Napster had a lot more users in its prime, ever since they moved to a paying service they lost most of the their users.

hmm, winmx is very easy to get to work. even a girl, good friend of mine, has got it to work..... (and she couldn't get anything to work normaly)
a firewall isn't the problem, winmx works fine here, and i also have a firewall |

My definition of spyware is a progam that monitors how, what, where , and who you go visit on the interent. Most spyware I have seen is geared specificaly to the key market area for that customer. This gives the corperation first hand knowledge of what there possible customers are interested in seeing, doing, etc...
There has been a lot of spyware projects that are successfull. Most of them are called affiliates that say you can make money while you surf the internet. They track were you guy and what you do and then sell that to marketing companies. Why kazaa, morpheous, etc.. are bad? They have been branded with the bad meaning that comes with spyware. One of kazaa's partner marketing companies slipped an extra program with the kazaa install. This is not part of kazaa or even built by kazaa (suposedly). This program did not ask if it could be install, did not ask it if could start up on a reboot, and did not ask if it could track your actions and report what they find to there main server. The program usually doesn't do anything different than the affiliate programs do, except they don't tell you they are there and the have no uninstall program. These, by definition are your modern day viruses. They are just not as smart as some of the more well branded viruses that can find there own way around the internet with help from another programs install program. Finaly, don't let yourself be fooled that a firewall will protect you. When this program runs, it is concidered a trusted application. This program has the ability to find a trusted port to get out and report its findings. Unless you don't use your computer to connect to any other computers at all, including the internet, these programs can get out. Your firewall/server logs are the only place you may ever find out that you have one of these installed. A firewall's true skill is the ability to make sense of the traffic more so than block the traffic. Blocking it is a safety to keep the honest honest. Read your logs and know what you are reading and you can be confident you are doing everything possible. The End. Sorry for the book. You did ask for exact right? TeddyBare69 |
