VB 5.x or VB4x or not ....
Hello,
I have been out of the mix for a while, but plan to get back in. I am still playing with VB 3.8.5 on the live site and still love it, but I am having ideas of dragging VB4.0.3 P1 off the local Dev box and start playing with a site migration. Before I have fun, what are peoples thoughts on the new VB5 version? |

Well firstly, if you use vB3 or vB4, then grab the latest versions. 3.8.5 is old, 4.0.3 is ancient and insecure.
vB5 is ... different. Unless you have some good reason to migrate, your are better off just upgrading your current version. |

Yeah well, it is just personal hobby and Dev demo sites as always. I will probably hang with VB3.x and VB4.x at the moment unless there are needs for VB5.
Updated versions would be good. I'll log-in to the members area at vb.com and see what needs to be done to update the 2 domains. |

vB5 lacks of addons that vB4 did, I am using vb4 and liking this version but hoping to run it with php7 on a new dedicated server. |

You might want to ask yourself: do you really need to do an upgrade to a higher version?
What does it provide that you need? You might want to request a demo version of vBulletin 5 so you can play around with it and see if it would be something your community would want. |

I'm not a fan of vBulletin 5 but to be honest it's actually really fast on a PHP 7.* installation.

Thanks for the idea on the demo of VB5. I have more time now to goof around with sites and make things. I admit, it is always easy to do with what I have and not learn a new vB version and ways of programming, but I might be missing out on the adventure. I have been here since VB2.3.9. - VB4.03 (2001-2010) making hacks, doing support, and served as a mod here @ vb.org, but fell off the planet doing other things for 6 years or so. (about the time I.B. bought vBulletin) Just fishing around for information. |

It still does 100+ SQL queries per page load.
