Default Channel Management

Sorry, can somebody remind me again? I forgot the structure of this procedure.

We have Home (Node ID: 1) followed by Main Forum (Node ID: 2).
When we create a channel, do we base it on Home or Main Forum to begin with.

For example: I create a child channel (channel A) based on Main forum. Then another (channel B) based on Main Forum. Yet in the breadcrumb, we have Home, channel A and channel B. But channel 'Home' is almost looks the same as channel A. Not sure if that is clear but it seems that channel A is redundant.

This is what I mean. . .

Home > Forum > Main Forum

The Forum link in the middle, is pretty much the same page as the home link. How do we get rid of the Forum link?

Is there a manual explaining common methods of forum structure?

It's been so long since I played around with this that I have forgotten how I did it in 4.2.2

Thanks. . .

The structure is correct.

Your homepage doesn't have to be the forum channel. It could be anywhere, including a custom page.

Home > Forum > Forum Name
Home > Blogs > Blog Name
Home > Articles > Article Name

That's how the structure is designed to work. I've no idea how you'd change what appears in the breadcrumb, it is partially defined in the navbar template though.

If you took the 'forum' out though, you'd have inconsistent navigation when someone was on the blogs section, for instance. Note as well that the URL structure effectively matches the breadcrumb structure too. You'd break that, albeit it would only be cosmetic.

Cheers, I will look into that. . .

Oh, and just to let you know. The configuration builder issue was cleared up.
It was a simple thing that had baffeld me from the start. It was all down to php version. I was running it on a lower version. 4. something or other. . .

Thanks. . .

I reset the url's to all of my forums and subforum to a nice short version of what I wanted to see. This method works pretty efficiently but the breadcrumbs will still show the forum tree structure. It could probably be edited in the templates, but I typically like to just hide the breadcrumbs as I don't use them and nobody complained when they disappeared.

When editing a forum page in site builder, it gives you the option to provide a url for that forum, change it to a nice short url and save. It also gets rid of the forum/forum in the urls. I did this on each forum on my site.

Ah ha, got it . thanks.

This thing gets me. It just sits there doing nothing..

It is even the same at vb.com
What is it with this no topics found?

I am clearly missing something here. . Why can't (node ID 2) act as a channel?
This is the second page in the breadcrumb I was talking about. .
