Default Viewing Permissions

I'm having trouble with forum viewing permissions. I'm using vBulletin 4.2.3 and I'm trying to limit the viewing permissions of a sub-forum so that only specific usergroups have access to it. I've edited the forum permissions so that the usergroups that I don't want to have access to it are denied. When I do this, the usergroups that should be able to view it aren't able to. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does the usergroup have access to the parent forum of the forum you're trying to give them access to?

Hmm weird, could you take a screenshot of the permissions of the usergroup?
Also the usergroup is assigned as a primary usergroup to the user(s) right?

It's an additional usergroup. The only primary usergroups I have set for my users on my vBulletin site are:

Administrators
Banned Users
Moderators
Registered Users
Super Moderators
Unregistered / Not Logged In
Users Awaiting Email Confirmation
Users Awaiting Moderation

I have 3 usergroups that I want to have access to this specific sub-forum. The 3 usergroups are additional usergroups.

I've had this set-up like this on another vBulletin 4 website before so I'm not sure why this isn't working for me right now.

Essentially, the user(s) accessing this sub-forum will be in the Moderator, Super Moderator, or Administrator usergroups, but I do not want all Moderators, Super Moderators, or Administrators having access to this sub-forum which is why I'm trying to set it up from the additional usergroups.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the primary usergroup overrides the permissions of the additional usergroup. So if the primary usergroup allows the user to view forum X but the additional usergroup does not allow it, it will use the primary usergroup its permission.

It works like that from my understanding.

But if I allow the Moderators, Super Moderators, & Administrators to have access to that forum, then every Moderator, Super Moderator, & Administrator would have access to it and not just the specific ones that I'd like to?

I believe so. One way to find out is to create a test (super) moderator account yourself and assign those permissions.

That's not what I'm wanting to do though. I don't want all moderators, super moderators, & administrators having access to this sub-forum.

I found the issue. I had to edit the Moderator usergroup permissions.

"Allow Users to have Member Groups
(Sets whether or not permissions from the user's member (secondary) user group memberships are inherited or not)"

I changed this to "Yes".

My Super Moderator & Administrator usergroups were this way already, just not the Moderator usergroup. Everything works as I wanted now.
