Does anyone here know what code needs to be added? Can it just be done with CSS?

I think so right, with some transition.

But I can't figure out how to do it.

What'chu mean "offers to do but doesn't"? Is it not easing in and out like the default sidebar does when you click the tab to hide it?

No it doesn't sadly, it does work for the forum blocks but not for the forum categories.
