how to drive traffic to my forum

The way to get people to your site is content, content, content. Once you have new and interesting content, search engines will index you, and when someone searches for something that is on your site, they will see the results in the search, then of course go to your site.

not only is content important, but also free advertise anywhere possible, forums are great for this allowing you to have your site in your sig, but make yourself known so more people want to view your site. there are also many sites that will showcase your site if you submit it, try google search terms like showcase my site, forum listing, things like that.

there's also payed advertisement, but with all the free options (there are many more) and the vast reach of the interwebs, you really shouldn't have to rely on pay'd advertising too much.

-social media (create pages where you can and use good descriptions (these will be picked up alot faster in google than your site itself))
-word of mouth, tell your friends, who in turn tell theirs, ect... ect...
-site listings
-alexa

but as ozzy said most will come out of having not only a lot but good content

All good but you do have to be careful about where you post your links or you will get penalized.

You may need some coaching courses about internet marketing, SEO from our marketing forum to increase traffic for your forum. I saw your forum need to be improved more, you will spend more time on it.

I just had a brief browse and you really need a bit more content there and some more focus in your forums. A niche topic always works best while off topic or general forums are always very tough. I know because I used to have one for years. Very hard to seo an off topic forum or site.

Change your meta tags to get rid of the default Vbulletin stuff and you have to have some type of a description so people know what your site is about. Descriptive forum titles and good descriptions are important as well.

Definitely! Social sites are a must!

And mobile is vital too. Google has recently been rolling out some new mobile algo lately that I believe is going to impact rank depending on how your site content will display on mobile devices. Don't be surprised if you get a warning from webmaster tools about some pages not be ready for mobile!

While on the seo topic and because we mentioned social sites I hear that Google will be indexing Twitter again!
