Default PM quotas

Quick question.

Lets say Member A's primary group is "registered" and they also are a member of additional group X.

If the PM quota is set to 50 for the "registered" group, and set to 5000 for group X, will they have the 5000 PM limit?

If so, i assume the 5000 PM limit has no kind of restrictions as to who they can send and receive messages from?

Thanks

Is the "registered group" the primary group?

I haven't been through the group permission code in a long while. So I would need to look at the code for a quick refresher course.

I've just transferred the site over and one member said they had a small PM quota. I wanted to give this individual a higher quota and since i had them in a user group with me for something, i up'ed the quota for the group.

I wasn't sure if the highest one took priority, the lowest one, or if it was linked to primary group v's additional group.

I just done this for this person and wouldn't know if it would take or not.

According to the vB's manual, a yes overrides a no and a greater value overrides a lower value. I do not know if this is correct of PM quotas. Still researching...

No need to spend time on this, i wasn't sure if anyone knew off the top of their head. I should find out soon enough from the member and will post back here when i do.

Sounds like a plan.

Check the following:

In Usergroup Manager --> edit the Primary Usergroup --> is Allow Users to have Member Groups: YES (Should be set to yes)

This sets whether or not permissions from the user's member (secondary) user group memberships are inherited or not.

This is a repost from @Kh99 in an old thread. I trust his advice.

Note:
There is a slight exception to this rule. If 0 represents unlimited or no restriction, then it will override any other setting; it really is the greater permission.
So maybe you could reverse things and add everyone to a secondary group that gives permissions to the classifieds.

Thanks. I had that set to yes and the member appears to have the higher quota although i am double checking that with them.
