Default What I dont like about modifications ...

1 - Cheezy mods that require silly credits in the footer. Like get real,... nobody is gonna support this.

2 - Good mods that require cheezy credits in the footer,.. pay me and you can remove them. Are you kidding me??!! If it was all that good,.. I would pay you anyway.

3 - Good or cheezy mods that only give support on some other site that requires registration. Yes, if it was all that good, you wouldnt have to mule vb org to promote it,... no?

4 - mods marked as supported,... but arent. Nuff said.

Does anyone,.. I mean ANYONE remember when you posted a mod, supported it, and was just happy with the likes? No, I didnt think so.

Point is,... the vB org marketplace has become fractured with profiteers, opportunists, and those sincerely interested in providing unique and cool additions.

Coders,... which one are you?

I will tell you. I only use ONE of those options. Period.

I have a different point of view. If developers who made MOD's could actually make any money from them, you might see a plethora of new innovative scripts. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for those that have donated their hard work (not their rights) to vB.org. I have certainly benefited from their hard work.

Now there are agree in part.

I have no problem with the "making money" thing,.. I do ahve problem with the sub-branding and remote website support thing.

IB made the product,... the sub mod coders make it sub-functional.

Profit is something that provides substance,... not sub-stance.

Just my 2c.

Speaking as a developer and a user of many mods, I'll comment on this.

1a - If you feel it is cheezy, and don't like the credits in the footer, then don't use it. Then you would have nothing to not like about it. Some of the people sharing their work on here may not be very experienced, but they have taken the time to write out what they have done and share back with the community.

It is best said, "If you don't have anything good to say, then say nothing at all". To many times on here, someone releases something for the first time, and hey get the trolls, who go and bash their work, causing the developer to not care, and not try to work on that mod, or release more.

2a - While you may think that way, many people on here will not donate to a developer if they use or like their mod. Quite a few of the developers on here have no other income coming in, or very little from disability checks. So in order for them to try and compensate, they ask you to pay a fee in order to remove the credits in the footer.

Again this falls under the rules, if you don't want the credits in the footer, or don't want to pay to have them removed, simply don't use the mod.

3a - This I agree on to a degree, if you are going to provide support for the mod, the developer should try and provide it on here. But there is some acceptions to that.

A. The mod has a free and paid version, and you have the paid version. The developer can only provide support for the paid version on their site. Doing so here would violate vb.org policy, and confuse users who are using the free versions.

B. Some developers do not like how the layout is here for the mod's support threads. Questions can become quickly lost on here and be asked repeatedly my many users, causing the developer to waist time answering the same thing over and over again. Part of that is due to the fact that people don't bother reading the first post completely, or read the install instructions that was in the zip file for the mod.

4a - Supported / Unsupported, means nothing here. Just because a mod is marked supported, quite a few members here feel that their question should be answered immediately. When it is not, the post it again, or simply reply "bump" which tends to irritate the developer. Members have to remember, that supporting the mod is not a requirement, and just because the purchased a vB license, does not mean they will get modification support on a mod they installed.

Just because a mod is marked unsupported, does not necessarily mean a developer don't support it either. Quite a few of them mark it as unsupported, but still support it, for the reasons I described above.

5a - I do. The few mods I have released on here, I am happy knowing I was able to help someone out, and I am more than happy if they marked it as installed, and used the likes system, to like the post. That is why you don't see the "Support Developer" button in my mods.

It does however irritate me when a user is asking for support, but has not even bothered to take a split second to mark the mod as installed. I mean come on, it takes longer to write out the title for the mod, than it does to click a simple button.

6a - I am interested in providing cool additions, maybe not all are unique, but they do offer some options that a similar mod don't have, or mine may be supported, as where the other ones are not.

Yes.

I think you mean installs, not likes, we have only had the likes system for around a year.

Yeah likes / installs, as long as at the very least it is marked as installed, I am happy.
