Can a mod or super mod delete ALL threads and posts? 107k posts!?

Hello,

At 5:09am last night a super mod deleted ALL threads and posts at my forum. I'm running 3.8.9 PL2

He said he was moderating in mod cp and then it somehow happened, leaving just sticky threads behind. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?

If this super moderator has access to thread and post pruning, which I believe all super moderators do, they have the ability to wipe your entire forum of threads and posts. This is why it is very crucial that you select "safe" users for this usergroup.

This is also why you should be making daily backups of your site.

You can check all your moderator permissions in admincp > Forums & Moderators > Show all Moderators > edit permissions.

That is crazy. He thought he was just deleting all of the spam and threads awaiting moderationg not every single one in general. Why would a super mod be able to do such damage within one minute WTH now my site, a huge site is gone, even if I had a back up it'd be old not an every day back up because I can't afford the disk space an every day back up would be since the site is 80+GB.

I understand the frustration. I've done it before, myself. If you can take anything positive from this at all.. it'd be to either limit the authorization of such actions via permissions.

It's the "check all" box.... Can delete thousands of threads and/or posts. Easy to do, too easy.

The way Vb 3.x is setup when you add a moderator, any moderator not just super mod, the default Vb setting is "Can Mass-Prune Threads" YES. "Can Physically Delete Posts
(Completely removes the post from the database)" again YES.
