Default Database errors after hardware failure

Hello,

Over the holiday weekend we had a cpu fan to fail on our server. When we brought the service back up there were a few issues with php. So I ended up removing php and reinstalling it. At first I had loaded PHP 5.3.13. But then found out that our older version of vB 3.7.3 doesn't like anything above 5.2.6. So I removed it again and installed 5.2.17. Previously with the 5.3.13 vers. of php I simply was getting white pages on every page of the forum. (Normal forum pages, admincp, modcp, exc.) Now with 5.2.17 I'm getting database error messages on every page. I've checked the config.php page and the username is correct as well as the password. (I can log into mysql on the server from this account) I've also disabled hooks to see if that somehow was causing trouble, but it hasn't changed anything.

Here's the source of an error page.

I'm not really a mysql admin person at all, and I don't know what you might have changed since it was working. But where you setup the mysql users/permissions, what does the "Host" field say? Looks like you'd want it to say "www.steelsoldiers.com".

I've played around with making it localhost and 127.0.0.1 but both give errors that it cannot connect to the database when viewing the page source.

--------------- Added [DATE]1338405381[/DATE] at [TIME]1338405381[/TIME] ---------------

Also for giggles, I edited vB's config.php and loaded root's password and username to see if there's an issue with the account. But that also gave me the same error about access denied. (I then moved it back)

--------------- Added [DATE]1338411901[/DATE] at [TIME]1338411901[/TIME] ---------------

I made a simple connection php script and uploaded it just to see if vB/VBSEO was the problem. It doesn't connect to the database either. I'm just stumped now. But I feel as though it's something mysql or php related, since I can directly connect to the database from the command line.

PHP Code:
<?php
$link
mysql_connect(

'steelsoldiers.com'

'********'

'*******'

'*****'
);
if (!
$link) {
die(
'Could not connect: ' mysql_error());
}
echo
'Connected successfully';
mysql_close($link);
?>
