Followed the steps all the way up to importing the guest overlay xml.

Did you upload all the files correctly? The only way you should see that is if the contents of the "uploads" folder we're not uploaded directly to your forums root directory properly.
This kinda mod is becoming very popular these days on wordpress sites ... I was wondering when this would be available for vBulletin ... Tagged for now.
PS: I guess there's no negative impact to SEO because of this?
Right now there may be some minor impact (depends what you enter into it for the most part) but we will be releasing an update that will have no impact as it will bypass showing to search engines.
