basic questions

I have installed vbulletin 4.1.7 last week and i can be called as beginner in vbulletin so here i want to ask you few basic questions because when i started searching around i found different views, techniques and i'm searching for the best to keep myself out of trouble.

- what is the correct way to keep my vbulletin suite healthy for a long time ?
- Do i have to do certain backup repeatedly and how can i restore it ??
- Do i have to update constantly??
- Does Facebook connect make my site laggy?

1) Use strong passwords. Keep vb itself updated.
2) I use scripts to back up my db daily and download it locally. Once a month I go into cpanel and do a full site backup and download it. I store these on alternate hard drives one of which is always off the premises.
3) No, but try to keep up with major updates and security updates. You can subscribe to the appropriate announcement forums at vb.com.
4) I don't have any big problem with it. But sure, any time you link to someone else you have to put up with their delays.
