Banning IP State-Wide
how can I ban a complete state from joining my forum?
There is a user from a state who is spamming my forum.. I know banning his ip wont keep him away. he can just use another computer or change his ip.. what is the best thing for me to do? what if i did the global ignore thing? he would think he can be seen but his post are invisible right? |

I don't know of any practical way to ban ips from a state. And if someone really wants to annoy you they can use a proxy server and appear to come from somewhere else.
The global ignore thing is a good idea, if he doesn't notice it, it may keep him busy for a long time. Other than that there's not much you can do. There's kind of a trade-off between making it easy for people to join and keeping spammers out. I guess you could moderate new users. |

Yeah, I think I will stick with the global ignore for now. but the moderating new users may be a good idea too.

You cannot successfully ban a certain state from your board. A variety of ISP's are used, thus, you cannot ban by IP range. In addition, the hostnames are different for each IP/ISP as well..
You could attempt to filter out all the ranges from certain ISPs that deliver in the state you wish to block, but you would more than likely deny access to other users using the same ISP in other states. |
