What's New? New posts not removed after being read...
... Hi All,
The problem that I have is with the "New Posts" list. I have used the Mod to add extra tabs and made one, and worded it like the old 3.8 one called "NEW POSTS". When a user clicks on that, they see a list, if any, of new posts, but when they go back again to check (whether they click refresh or clear their cache) they still see the ones that they have viewed or posted in. The posts have not been added to since that member had viewed or posted on them. Why is this happening and how do I overcome it please? Many Thanks. |

What is your setting in AdminCP > Settings > Options > General settings > Thread/Forum Read Marking Type ?

It was on the second (middle) option, Lynne. I have now changed that to the third (last) option. Hopefully that will work for them. (I will also test it out now). Many Thanks. --------------- Added [DATE]1296065237[/DATE] at [TIME]1296065237[/TIME] --------------- The recently view thread, is still showing in the "NEW POSTS" section. (after I have viewed it). --------------- Added [DATE]1296093729[/DATE] at [TIME]1296093729[/TIME] --------------- Lots of complaints from my members on this one. |

EDIT:
Lynne, I have just tried it with the following code added below the "<php" in my config.php: Code:
define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true); I have just tried over on vBulletin.com and it doesn't work correctly over there either. In fact, all read posts stay at the top and remain in bold text. |

If it isn't working how you want over on vbulletin.com, then you don't want to use a database setting for Marking the Threads because that is what they use. So, perhaps you want to use the Cookie setting.

Lynne,
I don't want it to work like vB.com. What I want is like the old 3.8 version did... ... Once a user clicks on the "What's New?" tab, they see the new threads, as they should. But once they have read that thread, the thread doesn't disappear off of the "What's New?" list. It stays there and is visable to them. All the read threads stay there. They should all be removed from there like in vB3.8. Not only is it annoying the heck out of my members, and driving them mad - they're giving me a headache over it. And because of this they are running into pages and pages of read "What's New?" posts - More server space used up. I need to sort this please. --------------- Added [DATE]1296175407[/DATE] at [TIME]1296175407[/TIME] --------------- Out of curiosity - If you click on the "New Posts" button in the navbar on vB.org here, and then clcik on the first of the new posts, then click the "New Posts" link again, and repeat several times on different new post threads, do they disappear off of the list for you? They don't for me (only one did, actually). I am thinking that this maybe a "Windows 7" issue? Many Thanks. --------------- Added [DATE]1296175577[/DATE] at [TIME]1296175577[/TIME] --------------- Having said that - I doubt all my members that have complained about this are operating Windows 7. :| |

What I was saying is that if vb.com isn't working how you like, then you don't want to use their Thread Marking type which is database. And, if vb.org isn't working how you want, you don't want to use what we are using which is also the Database markup. You probably want to use the Cookie option instead.

Hello Lynne,
I have just tries that and it is exactly the same in respect to "old threads remaining on the What's New? list". Is there anything else that I can do, Please? Many Thanks. |

Those are the only two options - cookies or database marking - so I don't have any other recommendation.

I have managed to do it now thanks Lynne, posted on vB.com.
turns out I used the "search.php?do=getdaily&contenttype=vBForum_Post" instead of: "search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post" You wouldn't have known that as you hdn't seen it. Thanks again for your help. |
