How do you manage backups
As per title really, how do you manage your backups?
To cut a long story short I am looking for a reliable unattended mechanism to backup, primarily the DB, a medium sized VB4 installation. There are countless scripts out there that will do the job, some very basic, some with lots of bells and whistles (i.e. compression, FTP transfer, rolling backups etc). Then you have VB Cron backups and backups via cpanel/plesk etc. The only thing that none of these support is closing the forum during the backup period. So, how do you manage your backups? |

I run a script that creates a backup every day. Then I run a cron job that transfers it to my offsite backup site (just in case something happens to my servers). I run a script that backs up all my avatars/attachments/torrents and then I transfer them also. And I run a script to transfer all files everyday individually also. I don't close the forum during any of these backups, but I do run them in the middle of the night.
