Banning IP's that aren't numerical

There are several bots from china and russia that sit on my site 24/7, sucking bandwidth. I've tried banning them as they appear in the "Who's On" screen, but it doesn't seem to affect them.

Here's one:

spider80.yandex.ru

How do I ban users with this type of "IP" address?

I've tried the email banning also. It also didn't work.

I'd like to ban any address that originates in china or russia.

I run a Florida Tourist site. I don't need Chinese and Russian bots.

You can't. spider80.yandex.ru is just where an IP is pointing to. It's the resolver.
If you have set your options to show resolved IP's on who is online, disable that, then ban the numerical IP's.

Tip: NEVER auto resolve IP's on vBulletin, as it has huge performance issues with who is online.

I tried to use "95.*" as a banned IP, but it didn't work.

Is there any way to restrict the site to USA and Canada IPs? That's my target audience.

The bots from 3rd world countries seem to be sitting on the site 24/7.

IPs 93. 94. and 95.

Tried the ##.* with each and it doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Just use "95.", so without the asterix. See also the help for that field.

Thank you Marco. I'll try that.

I used the asterisk, because the help field mentioned it as a wildcard that would block everything beyond the initial numerals. It didn't work however.

It seemed to work for the 93. and 94. IPs and all thier bots, but the IP for "spider80.yandex.ru" seems to be unaffected by it, even though it's IP shows as 95.108.155.252

Using the first set of numbers and the dot seems to be working now. I have no idea why it wasn't before. Now when any of the ones I block that way try to enter the site, they get an error message.
