Public & Private Forum ?????
I paid for vB 4 but am waiting to upgrade. Right now, I'm on vB 3.7.4
The forum is restricted access for members of a veteran's group. Members information (UserCP) needs to remain restricted to group members. Is it possible to allow the general public to view (and only view) selected areas in the forum, such as a summary of the unit's history, along with posts from members in those public areas? Thanks |

Yes, it is possible.

Okay, so we don't have "Users Awaiting Moderation." Every member has to pass muster and then we personally register them.
So should I just create a "Public" user group for instance, and then give that group permission to view selected areas? I'm thinking this would work. Thanks |

For guests you should set the permission to the Unregisterd/Not Logged In usergroup.

Thanks Marco. I'll experiment with this option. I presume that they will then be able to bypass the login screen and view just the allowed pages. If this works, I will avoid a lot of webpage design and maintenance, something I'm no good at and have little time for, after hours on this non-profit venture.
Again, thank you very much. --------------- Added [DATE]1267653698[/DATE] at [TIME]1267653698[/TIME] --------------- I'm figuring it out!!!! This proves that even a senile old *$&# can figure some things out. Thanks |
