How to tell how many users are using a certain skin?
Hi,
I have 2 skins on my site, a light and a dark, is there a mod/method I can use to tell how people are using the light one and how many the dark? I tried searching but as you can imagine the keywords are very popular! |

There is a mod like vb.org somewhere that shows what style they are using in postbit. I can't find it

Bumping this... anyone know how to figure this out from the database? I just need to know the number of people using a certain style.

Specifically
Code:
SELECT styleid, COUNT(styleid) AS stylecount FROM user GROUP BY styleid |

Great, thanks!
--------------- Added [DATE]1409191318[/DATE] at [TIME]1409191318[/TIME] --------------- Actually, not sure if that's working properly? I got this back: styleid stylecount 0 14411 2 4 4 1 6 2 9 2 But the style IDs don't match the style IDs as I see them in the Style Manager... I don't even have a style ID 0, for example... My active styles are 2, 9, 7 and 8 and half of those numbers aren't even in the list. Any ideas? |

0 means they have nothing specifically set - in other words they are seeing whatever you have set as the default. The others have selected different styles. It's possible to have users that set an old style and haven't been back to the site since new styles have been created. Anything not listed isn't being used at all.

Hmm, ok. Seems weird that practically nobody uses anything but default though.

When most people go to a site they accept that what they see is the way the site is suppose to look. Very few people will change the style or they may not even know that they can. That's why your default style should be the way YOU want it to look to everyone else. |

It's a bit more complex than that.
The majority of users will change their style using the style chooser at the bottom, rather than going into their options. If they do it with the style chooser, then it's just setting a cookie, it doesn't record anything in the database. So there's no way to obtain a count of these users. Somewhere, there's a vB3 mod that alters the style chooser so that it actually updates the user settings, just as if they had gone into the usercp (it leaves the cookie version in place for guests). I've been using it on my site (which has been on vb4 since 2010) for many years. It's loads better... --------------- Added [DATE]1409230432[/DATE] at [TIME]1409230432[/TIME] --------------- I found it...it's not a mod as such...just a discussion, but it's from this thread that I managed to make it (on vB3): https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=210969 I asked at the very end how to make it work on vB4, I did eventually do it but it's too long ago for me to actually recall.... |
