What will happen for my MODS after updating vB?!
Hi there, I'm newbie in vB so I'm so sorry for my stupid question!
Now my vB version is 3.8.3 and I'm going to update it to 3.8.4, but I wonder what will happen for my add-ons after updating?! for example I've installed Thank you hack, after updating lots of core files will get back to the initial status so what would happen for thanks MOD file changes and also what about thanks count? Thanks in advance |

its pretty rare that any hacks/addons would cause any issues just upgrading from 3.8.3 to 3.8.4 as most hacks are for 3.8.x and up. im still running 3.6.x mods and 3.7

Prior to upgrading, it is always best to go read the last few pages of the modification threads and see if anyone posts about any problems with the later versions of vb.

A few mods/hack require you to edit default php files during install. Those php files will be over-written during upgrade. Just save a copy of any default php file you may have edited & re-edit new php file after upgrade.
When you enter your admincp, you will see that you have a few outdated templates. Do not revert them or you will loose your edits. You can view history of each template & will need to edit them for each to be updated. Some fuctions of vb may not function properly unless you do so. |

Thanks guys, so how can I find out which php file has been changed during installing a MOD?! in other words, how can I understand if an add-on changes php core files during importing its product.xml file or not?

most of the mods do work with all versions of vb
if it is not specifically mod for certain versions like this mod is for vb 3.8 ONLy , then it will not work with 3.7 or lower for them to use you have to wait for the updated version to be released |

php files don't get physically changed unless you edit them. You need to look at your installation instructions and see if you were asked to edit a file. What a developer usually does is add code to the files via the hooks/plugin system. If you have any plugins with the mod, then they add code to the files at the appropriate hook location.
