Dreamweaver?
Hello
Just wondering what your thoughts were about Dreamweaver? Is it worth the money? How much tech knowledge do you need? Thanks for any info. Gabby |

I don't know any good developers that use it, most consider it a tool for amateurs or designers.
You'd be far better off learning to do things properly IMO. |

Currently using UltraEdit myself (v14, when it was still a lightweight program to use).
Dreamweaver looks interesting, especially its autocomplete features, but it's quite recourse heavy. If it'd be worth its money is all depending on why you'd like to use it I guess. |

I use it because it has FTP built in. I quite like the code hinting too.

Dreamweaver's strength is that it has been adopted by a lot of large design shops. I am talking about companies that spend millions on website design and development. Companies like Sony, EA Games, Disney, Vivendi, Viacom, HBO, Time Warner and so forth. If you want to work for these companies than you should learn how to use Dreamweaver. Though Microsoft's Web Expressions is gaining market share in corporate development as well. |

If you're on a MAC try CODA otherwise (if you have the money) go with dreamweaver. It is a great program. It pretty much does everything for you.

Thanks so much guys. I sell wysiwyg software and I love it but I've always wondered about Dreamweaver. I downloaded a trial version of it and it's pretty advanced for me but I'm sure I can learn it eventually. I downloaded it to my laptop which was a big mistake as I think the software requires a wider screen to be fully effective and more easily navigated.
I just looked at Notebook++ and it looks interesting. I'll have to look at it some more. Thanks again everyone. |

I use Dreamweaver CS3 Master Edition and Love it for CSS designing.
I use Frontpage 2003 for building tabled content and designs with no CSS. FP is easier to use but it cant do 1/2 the things that DW can . I dont suggest using the built in FTP of FP either because the FP server extensions makes changes to .htaccess each time it connects and it overwrites any customizations you have . I use SmartFTP and have over 25 websites i manage set up in it |
