Cross thread / post usage of [attach] ?

Hi,

I haven't updated vbulletin in a while, so the [attach] bb code option is new to me. It's very nice but it is somehow possible to make this work for posts different than the one the attachment was uploaded with? Get's kind of old to use [url=http://urltoimage][img]http://urltothumb[/img][/url]. And that won't allow the user to open the picture in the same window either.
