Two databases sharing the same user table?
Guys, I have already a vB site running vB 3.0.xx heavily patched.
I am in the process of creating a new, independent site, which will have its own database, but I need to share the user table between the two sites. I know that I can export the existing table and import it in the new database, but what about future members who will register in my original site? I would like them to immediately become members of the second site as well. Any ideas on how this can be done? Thanks for any help you can provide me with. |

The best solution in your case would be to create a bridge for the sites. As one user is updated, update the other. I usually suggest some sort of MySQL views or another solution that uses one table, but that would not be ideal in your case, as you are running two different versions of vBulletin.

It has been done (search), but it will also give you a lot of headaches. All the usergroups (&id's) must be the same. If someone is a moderator on 1 forum he will also be a moderator on the other, postcounts, etc..

Thanks for the replies guys. The user groups, I do not care, I like actually to keep the same moderators. As for the post counts etc, these can be fixed with a few simple queries.
So Marco, what's your suggestion? Make everyone re-register? We are talking about 35000 members here. |
