Pre Sales Ramblings
Hello vB.org peeps,
I have just taken a job and one of my first assignments is to implement a forum. I have used free versions of several forums like phpnuke and phpbulletin but always felt something was missing. I guess you get what you pay for! With my new employment, money seems to not be an issue so I suggested vBulletin to the owner. I have heard great things about it and as a member on several forums that use vBulletin I must say that I like vB very much. Fact is I am ready to purchase it now, however there is one issue that needs resolution before we purchase. I am having a hard time finding a exact answer to this question. I have spent some time trying to find it in the forum with no luck. Q: The owner NEEDS to have the ability to allow members to upload video from several sources such as YouTube, LiveLeak etc. It seems that this can be done however, the owner wants to embed from our server. Example, I am a member, I upload a video from facebook to NewSiteImBuilding.com, facebook deletes video and it is no longer available on NewSiteImBuilding.com due to the fact that facebook servers were hosting the video and now it's gone. Is it possible to host the video on our servers from just embedding from another site? I know that I can use phpMotion to host in this fashion but we just want to use vB and avoid running 2 sites or trying to integrate/bridge user databases (making users sign up at 2 sites) I guess what I'm trying to say is: 1) We grab a video from YouTube 2) Embed it on our site 3) Upon embedding it also uploads it to our server 4) we now host the video as well as youtube 5) YouTube deletes video but it is still available on our site I understand if we embed from another site and they delete it the link will be broken and I know that it won't fix itself so perhaps it is not embedding that we want but upload video option. I just don't think (AME) will do this exactly as we intend. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I hope this makes sense. |

Many members of my forum are not from the US and therefore many videos we like to share get blocked.
So I did the same thing you want to do. What you need is a video hosting script. Believe it or not, the best and most reliable ones are free. I am currently running a German video script called OStube. I love it -> http://bayuno.com/ However I would also recommend clip-bucket.com because their script offers several add-ons one of which is a youtube grabber!! it will automatically rip the video from you tube as well as let users normally upload videos. clip-bucket also publicly released plans on future integration into vb. They all also offer the embedding feature. :up: I have tried a lot of video scripts, they are all good. some are just more advanced with others. Just please note that you cannot just install and go, you will need a dedicated server and on that server you will need special software so that the videos work properly. There are several "video-optimized" shared hosts out there, which I would stay away from at all costs, unless you want an oversold laggy box. but vBulletin is definitally the way to go, I never had a complaint |

private ale,
I really appreciate your reply. I am currently running phpmotion (free and awesome) on my personal site and have installed mods that allow me to grab video/audio from just about anywhere and it hosts the video on my server. This part I understand. My problem is I would like the same function to work on vB without using a 3rd party app. I read these forums to see if there was a bridge for vB to phpMotion but was unable to find the necessary mod and am forbidden from pre-acquiring assistance before purchase to help me make a informed decision. No disrespect meant to the mods here. PLEASE DO NOT DELETE MY ACCOUNT. If I have to use both I will but was hoping that vB could be a stand alone solution to my needs. Without a bridge or the ability to rip and store videos I may be forced to run another script. I do know of another that is running and proven with phpMotion but I really want to use vB. I apologize if I did not make this clear enough in my initial post. Thanks again ALE |

If money is not an issue (as you stated in your first post) and you cannot find an already available modification, then get a coder to build a bridge for you.

I'm not entirely sure what you are looking for as I have trouble understanding all of your requirements.
However from what I have gathered you want and need and money not being an issue I would highly recommend looking at VBTUBE there is a FREE version and a paid version that has all the little things you need embed videos from another site upload to own server etc. |
