Posts/Boards Missing after mistake by Hosting
Hi,
We had a problem with our hosting in which our site was down for around a day and a half, anyway when we got it back some boards were missing including the messages, I asked but they said that we could not get them back even from a back up so we started the boards again, anyway I was searching for something today and some of the missing messages appeared, however they dont seem to be in a forum anywhere? I have put a screen print below, it says when I click on them I do not have permission to view them, and I cannot move them anyway as I tried. Anyone know how I can get them back as some of them were very important to the members of our site? To be honest the hosting was shocking and as it was their fault in the first place I think their customer service was terrible so they didnt really help at all. Thank you |

What you are describing sounds like your host restored a partial backup. Your post table doesn't match your forum table (ie. posts/threads exist in forums that have no entry in the forum table).
Real solution would be to restore a complete backup. If this is not possible, you could try to recreate forums, and update the forumid in the posts/threads with the new id. But i would test this first on a test board. |

I asked about a full restore and they said
Your site is using InnoDB tables, the backup servers do not support InnoDB tables, so the restore would not work unfortunately. So I dont know whether that means that if they mess up again we would lose everything and I need to change hostings as well? Anyway how would I update the forum ID? Thank you your help is most appreciated |

vBulletin does not use InnoDB. It uses MyISAM and HEAP.

Depending on your settings vB can also use (partially) InnoDB.
But seriously if your host tells you they can not backup your data, then the time to go search for a new host has already passed some time ago. |

I havent changed too long ago and went off the recommendations of people on here they are really well known and Im quite annoyed that they are unable or seem unwilling to help, but will be looking for another again. Thanks very much.
