(Assistance, plz?) Embedding Forum Posts to External Page
Alright, so I've tried using RSS feeds and javascript, and none of it works. It's driving me crazy!
What I want to do is make it so my site's homepage can pull data from my forum and display it on the page. For example, let's say I make a thread called "Win a free game!" And, the post in that thread says "Win a free game by buying it!" What I want to happen is on my home page, it will show that post. I have tried vbAdvanced, and it did not work. I see plenty of sites doing this, and I want to do it to make it so my homepage receives less attention from my staff than the forum. Anyone know how to do this? Or can you point me to a tutorial? I've looked to no avail. |

You've tried methods like this - [HowTo] Display your latest threads on an external page using an RSS2 feed? You need to have your feed on in the vboptions > external data provider area.

Yeah I gave that method a shot, but I can't figure out how to pull the actual post out of it as well.
Basically, I want to have a section set up on my site of "Latest Reviews", and it shows an entire review a member wrote. Then, I want to put a "Comments (# of comments)" link where it leads them to the thread on the forum. You have any other ideas? Edit: Also, I want something like an index on the page. For example, I want to be able to have an alphabet someone can click on. Let's say they click "F", and then go to "Final Fantasy." When they go there, they can click on a certain game and then read a review that was extracted from the review on the forum. That's why the HowTo thing didn't work -- it only showed a little of the thread. Edit 2: This thread right here explains entirely what one main portion is I want to do: http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14859 But, I also want it to look like the RSS feed: http://www.rpanime.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2 So that it shows the thread title, post content, and then I want to add a link that shows the number of replies, allowing someone to click it to be taken to the actual thread and reply as well. I am running vb 3.7 and I can't find any fps_external hacks or files. --------------- Added [DATE]1232510316[/DATE] at [TIME]1232510316[/TIME] --------------- No ideas? v.v;; |
