Limiting areas for only the select few
I am sooo new to vbulletin, so please excuse my ignorance.
I have a military information site. Most (like 99%) is just normally helping people. However, being a military guy, we love a dirty joke now and then. However, I do not want any kids under 18 to see them, nor do I want some older, Ned Flanders types (the Simpsons) to see them either. So how do I do it? I saw a hack for limiting ages but it was for Vbulletin 3.6. And that one won't help be to limit the older people out. I was thinking of having a user group that you must join, but I cannot understand the 3.7.4 Patch 1 manual. Any suggestions? |

you could simply create a new usergroup that would be the only group to have access to that specific forum... people interested to join that group contact you, and you give them access.
this is easier than applying a hack to change your settings... and age limit hack will not be precise, people can still change their age or have a false one... |

I agree with nexialys. Create a user group and you give access to those that ask to view.
As for the age limit....you have no way of knowing the age of anyone asking for access to it. Peolple can say any age they want when contacing you. The fact that they have to ask for access is sufficient evidence of concern as to content on your part. A disclaimer or warning of content is a good idea. Anyone not wanting to read crude or dirty jokes won't even ask for permission to view. |
