Default test forum/database

Ok--I might be doing something silly.

But I am getting ready to upgrade to 3.8 but I have a decently modified forum..

So let me know if I have done this all wrong.

So I backed up all of my files.

I have another host I will be running it on and once done deleted. So I moved all the backed up files to the other host.

I then created a new database to use.. At this point I also changed the config.php file to reflect the database info change.

Now I keep getting database errors (forum doesn't even load).

Did I do it all wrong

Since you did not mention, did you also move the database?

In the database is your forum content. without moving your old database it is just an empty and brand new forum. If you want your forum in the new host, just like the old one, you must upload your old database file to new one.
If your database is big, you might want to use something like mysqldumper to backup and restore your database.
Database management is an important issue since all your content is in there

You were right on the $$.. used that program to backup the database, created a new one on the new host and restored the database info into the new database and works like a champ...

There is also a nice guide on moving servers in the vBulletin Manual (although it assumes you have SSH access).
