Odd activity by new users
Over the weeks of moderating a licenced vB forum, I have noticed a lot of new users (Spammers) log in and instantly go to viewing their account. They are now rarely modifying the details within it but just sit there for quite some time before logging off! They even do this while under a ban too!
Question: Have they found a means to exploit the forum in which to move from site to site thus creating a chain in which to hide their source IP identity? I did ask (via email) this question but as I am just a moderator and not a licence holder, I was treated with contempt! Secondly, moderators and users that generally have a concern where they feel a software exploit is worth bringing to your attention, should at least be able to do so without feeling their observations/concerns are worthless unless they have paid for a licence. |

They shouldn't be able to log in if you're banned them/ip addresses. Make sure you/your admin has the banned permissions set correctly.

Probably to help your admin out would be to report each post so that they can deal with it.

Usaly you are looking @ a BOT or script that is running on a timer. It trys to PM or change their SiG with an Advert.
Banning a user does not stop them from logging in. - It puts them in a usergroup with limited access. (banned usergeroup) - yes, they can login and go through the motions of changing settings and doing things, but get hit with no access pages. To stop them from logging in, you "deny from IP" in your .htaccess file. |

Thank you Zachariah., and the other posters who kindly replied.
This has answered one of my concerns. I will ask the Admin to allow/setup the option to deny IP logins where they are using multiple accounts under one IP. Such a pity more can't be done in kurbing and prosecuting these spamming parasites. |
