Keeping RSS feed member only but allowing RSS readers?
At the moment I've got RSS feeds visible to members only, which is fine for those who feel happy using a RSS aware web browser. But since the browsers use their cookie to gain access, it means those who want to use a dedicated feed reader can't, since they don't use a cookie.
I am not going to enable the feed for non-members, so any ideas on a possible workaround? Cheers, T. |

I do beleive the only solution then would be to create your own RSS reader program that supports logins.

what about having a copy of the external.php in another htaccess protected directory on the server? Is that practical? I do have full access to the server so could set up a separate directory away from the main forum one.

I dont think it'll matter much where external.php is at, its still only going to get the RSS feed contents it has permission to.
You could always try it and see if it works, or wait around for more opinion on the matter as i'm no RSS expert |
