Using vBulletin for University Functionality and Operations

Hey Everyone,

I've mentioned in passing that it would be nice to replace our old forum and university grading system with a vBulletin forum to my college classmates. I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Desire 2 Learn (D2L), but this is the current system we are using, and many aren't a big fan of it, IMO.

I already know vB is the best discussion board software out there, but I need to know about other potential features, that D2L offers us that we also use, and whether vB offers these in some form or another as well:

A Quiz System = For taking online quizzes for various classes

A Grading System = For displaying the grades we receive on all our assignments. Not necessarily related to just quizzes, but offline assignments as well.

A Dropbox System = For students to upload various assignments for teachers and professors to look at and grade. The files would mostly be Microsoft Word documents or on occasion regular files using notepad, images, etc.


I was thinking that most of these things would be nice to have in the UserCP, privately, as we wouldn't want others to see what grades we get on assignments, among other things.

This isn't a "For Sure" thing at the moment, we're just toying with the idea for now. I know how great it would be to use vBulletin for classes, already being familiar with it's functionality and very clean user-friendly interface. Who knows, maybe we'd be able to add more features to our system as well with vB.

This will require custom coding. vBulletin is a community, discussion board.

You will most likely need to get a contractor to do the custom coding for you.

I know it will require custom hacking, I was just curious if there were mods out there already that provide these features. For example, I was thinking we could use the inferno quiz hack for the online tests:

And maybe there were already similar things for the other requirements we'd need. Or possibly if other school systems use vB too, it'd be interesting to hear about them if there are.

Can't use that. It was made for 3.0.7, and the latest, 'stable' release is 3.6.9. A lot has changed since then.

Either way, we're just looking around right now to see what other hacks and mods are out there that we could use.
