So I'm downgrading from my $400 a month server at The Planet because it's too expensive, especially for a person with no job.

And I'm looking for something cheaper.

My forum stats are:
Threads: 2,603, Posts: 26,526, Members: 1,579, Active Members: 454
And around 20-40 people on at a time.

I want to stay at The Planet because they have awesome servers and perfect uptime. So I'm thinking of this package:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz+
1024 MB RAM

Which is only around $100 a month.

I think I will just have the forum and a couple other sites of mine on the server, will this be okay setup? Or do I have to have something a little bigger?

Thanks for help,

PS. I didn't get the $400 server for just the forum, I know it's overkill. I have about 60 other sites hosted on the server that I'm going to move as well. Probably on a seperate *cheap shared plan.

You wont face any problems with $100 server. However, you will need make sure that your other 60 websites will run smoothly on that server.

Aye, I will most likely just host a few websites on the server.

Yeah, a P4 @ 2.4GHz should be more than enough for your setup. Im using a similar server myself and were not even close to having any performce problem even though were peaking at 100+ users online sometimes.

We are using some very cpu-heavy mods, if i would remove those Im sure ther server would be able to cope with more than 500 users online without any major problems.

You could run that forum on a shared server depending on how optimized you've got it and what modifications you've got installed, 20-40 users online at all times, isn't that much. I use the $10 asmallorange hosting, and haven't had a single issue with anything, not even having 200-300 people online at a time before once or twice

Yes a site that small a VPS or even shared hosting could handle. Perhaps doing the shared at first to save on money until you can afford a VPS.
