Web Site Defaced
Question: If your web site is defaced via the CMS (not) VB, and you know your cpanel was not affected, can you just go into MySQL and dump the tables of that specific area of the CMS? Someone got in and dropped a script in my add news section, along with claiming ownership of my web site.
So, could anyone please tell me if the CMS just stores the data that is input into the CMS directly to a table in MySqL? And not written to a file? Need some help, thought I would try from the people I trust most at VB. Thanks in advance |

Depends on what CMS you use, and you need to secure your server before doing anything.
If you are using vBADvanced, simply revert the templates from the AdminCP, if usnig something else its hard to tell what you'll need to change. They all work differently these days But dropping MySQL tables probably isn't the best route to go no matter what. |

Thanks for your reply.
However, my CMS is not VB related, It's a CMS From a gaming template from Surreal Media But, I thought since I've spent the last 10hrs trying to undo the damage that was done and I took the time to post here for help, I thought I would share how I fixed it. Actually in the db MySQL found the data base that holds the CMS tables like cp_comments and cp_news and cp_settings. I found by clicking on them all and click browse then click edit I then was able to remove all the damage that was done. Now my web site is restored. |
