Default HTML Username Markup with Custom Profile Field

I was wondering if it would be possible to utilize the custom HTML Markup through the usergroups option towards a custom assigned profile field. I'm working for a company that is seriously considering purchasing vB but we would need the board to display a field containing real names instead of the user names that will be assigned. I know that its possible to change the field in the postbit as described in this article

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/archi.../t-214234.html

I have been an admin on a vB board before and really like the HTML custom markup option to distinguish between users.

Also, would it be possible to use that custom profile field with the "Who's Online", and if so with the HTML markup?

Thanks,
MrAJP

All that you have mentioned is possible, but it requires someone to code modifications for. But I think you are taking the long route, instead of the short one. It would be simpler to dynamically change the profile field's markup through plugins prior to them being displayed.

I don't believe there is a readily available modification/example for this kind of thing.

So after I get licensed, I would have to ask for a plug-in that could "dynamically change the profile field's markup"? Or is it something that could be changed in the theme code?

--------------- Added [DATE]1201185057[/DATE] at [TIME]1201185057[/TIME] ---------------

Basically, I need everywhere the username is, to be replaced with a custom profile field. I'm trying to figure out how complicated it would be for me to do that.

Thanks,
MrAJP

It can all be done through editing templates. There is even a Search & Replace function in the Admin CP. Basically, search for the username variable, and replace it with the profile field's variable. The only exception would be for the Who's Online section, in that the processing of username's are done in the code.

Alright, I'll have more questions I'm sure. But hopefully I'll have my license by then and can post it on the other forums.

Thanks Again,
MrAJP
