So, it has been one thing after another today. I wake up and my site will not connect whatsoever. Just a blank screen. So, I send them a message and then about an hour later I start receiving these errors in my mailbox:

Database error in vBulletin :

Code:
mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: User XXXXX_XXXX has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections
/home/keyhuntc/public_html/forum/includes/class_core.php on line 274

MySQL Error :
Error Number :
Date : Thursday, October 25th 2007 @ 01:33:07 PM
Script : http://www.keyhunt.com/
Referrer :
IP Address : XXX.XXX.XX.xx
Username :
Classname : vb_database
So, I post that iin the ticket as well. Now, they say that basically I am using up too many resources blah blah. I don't understand a word they are saying. I know I don't have persistent connections on and I know that I cannot even access my cpanel to back up everything or to at least try to fix something. Basically what they tell me is to review my policy or something. What am I supposed to do here? Troubleshoot without being able to even get into my database? The site is lagging so bad I can't even get in cpanel and my actual site still hasn't been up for HOURS. Not only that it takes them 2 hours to reply to a ticket that I paid $1.00 for high priority. I just don't understand it....can someone enlighten me?

Desperate and ready to kill someone,
BigCurt

Oh and could this be a "DDos attack" - as here in the past few weeks I haven't exactly made new friends with my site...and have had threats.

There's always a risk with forums on shared accounts will peak past quotas. Just the nature of the beast. It can also be one bad script/mod/code tweak that could generate 100% CPU usage, or 10+% of the entire server memory (so true with CGI).

If a webhost has a good firewall and all, DDoS attacks would be nominal (especially if they monitor for unusual traffic, like The Planet does). You, and the the entire server, will know if your site is hit, too!

Someone that offers 750GB of space and 7.5TB of bandwidth for $7.50 is really over selling, I run a small hosting company mainly made up of people I know or have been recommenced, I have a good server not a shared hosting package and I wouldn't or couldn't offer that sort of space and bw, and if I did I would make sure I could honor it, uklike your host, what size site do they expect offering that?

They USED to be a lot better. My plan is like $15 a month for like 5gg ( or 15 ) and 50GB BW..something to that nature. However, they have really started to slack off lately ( especially in support ) and I am looking for other hosting options.

Yes any shared hosting account offering that much for 7.50 is obviously overselling and betting on the fact that the majority of people needing web hosting will not use 7.5 TB of bw heck the majority would be lucky to break a few hundred GB a month. They surely could not honor that to more then a few users, and if they move to theplanet they will get about 2TB a month included in their hosting package... So if even 1 user max's out his plan of 7.5 TB that host will have one hell of an overage bill, that the 7.50 will not cover..

I've always been amazed with how much Site5 gives away with their shared plan. 750GB + 7.5TB is just plain crazy. They could never realistically support that. No way. Not for $7.50 per month.

I would stay away from them simply because they are making such unrealistic promises.

The thing is, on one side of the coin they give all this space and data transfer - but on the flip side, their TOS probably has strict limits on CPU / MySQL / email usage which would prevent anyone from being able to use the full 750/7.5 anyway.

Just plain crazy.

And if that's crazy, I don't know what to call HostGator's "Swamp" plan that offers 1000GB of space and UNLIMITED bandwidth for $12.95 monthly. Yes, unlimited bandwidth.

I joined when they weren't that bad though. Now, I am looking for a new - DECENT hosting but it is hard to get an unbiased opinion.
