Bigger attachment limit on modification forums
I recently released a hack with a lot of screenshots. Unfortunately, I had to post some on the second post. Also I had to shoot some of them again, as there was a 700x700px limit which made some of them look awful due to resizing.
I believe there shouldn't be such limits when posting a mod. vB.org should encourage coders to release new mods and make their life easier when deciding to release one, not enforce such limits on them. I'm not suggesting that there should be no limits, but logical ones. Come on, 700x700 on SCREENSHOTS?? Just 9 screenshots per hack (the limit is 10, but 1 at least is spent for the file) ?? |

I think 700 x 700 is a huge image - some people don't even have screens that large (800 x 600) - 9 screenshots is also a large number - the vast majority of mods don't even have one screenshot.
You are talking about extreme and very rare cases, the current limits seem more than adequate for 99% of releases. It doesn't really seem to make much sense to set huge limits just for the odd rare occasion. |

Most coders have a 1280x1024 screen resolution, so screenshots naturally would be bigger than 700x700. Also, even on smaller resolutions, you might want to make 1 long page to 1 screenshot (with photoshop or ff extension) to ease the reader.
I'm not suggesting to have that limit everywhere, just for coders and just for the mod forums. Btw I've seen quite a few mods with screenshots at the second post. |

Screenshots are not posted for the benefit of the coders (i hope), but for the users. So the screen resolution or the internet speed of the coders should not be a real issue in this discussion.

I do agree that the screenshot size could be something bigger.
1024x768 is the most common resolution nowadays, 800x600 is used less then 4% on sites. |

What about combining some screenshots in a long one to make the user easier to understand what is where. Breaking a page into 2-3 screenshots does not help much.

TIP:
1) Batch resize your screenshots. 2) Only take necessary screenshots - we do not need screenshots of every section of your mod. 3) You can alwasy zip your screenshots (screenshots.zip). |

Take a look at the screenshots of e-steki User ModLog v1.1.1 - An alternative to moderation AutoPM.
For the fist one: I had to cut the whole USERCP shell from it so that it conforms to 700x700. This resulted to some users not being able to understand where the table will be put into! Second one from the admincp: I had to resize my window a lot to shoot it and afterwards use photoshop to manipulate it so that it conforms to 700x700. If I add one more setting to the hack, I'll have to split the options screenshot to two screenshots! That's insane! 700x700 is a very low limit, even coders with a resolution of 800x600 will need to resize and manipulate their screenshots. At least make it 800x800! Also, don't tell me that you care so much about users with 800x600, as even your site layout is wider than that. Also I don't think there are many site admins which use 800x600. |

Can't you post links to images hosted elsewhere? Or did I miss something?

It is recommended that you attach any images. This ensures that they don't "break".
