Like sending the same message to a selected group of people or close friends instead of sending the same news to them one by one

If you add those friends to your buddy list, you can send a message to as many as 5 buddies at the same time!

This is a standard feature in vBulletin 2 Beta 4 and higher... Maybe an upgrade is in order.

I would like to setup a button that allows users to send a private message to my 'news reporters' then they can act of it as needed.

is there an easy want to achieve this functionality in vb2.3.4?
