Learning from the ground up
I thought about putting this in either the Programming or Graphics forums but it kind of fits in both, so I'm putting it here.
Let's say that I want to build a home page and site like one of the current BOTM nominees, Redline Motor Sports. If I don't know anything about HTML (it's been so long since I used it, I might as well say I don't know it), CSS, or PHP and I don't know anything about graphics, where should I start and what tutorials are out there to help me? My wife can probably handle the Photoshop stuff even though she just gets into the photography end of it and not the custom images side. I'd still need to know what to tell her as far as what's needed for the site though. So how far above my head is the surface of the water? :erm: |

Was my question to vague for anything more than pointing me to w3schools?

Either build it yourself from the tutorials on w3schools, or use vBAdvanced.

w3schools.com is the best site out there i believe. It is the only site I have ever used and will get you coding in no time at all.
The best thing to do is practise writing your own pages, make them basic at first but then build yourself up from them. |

Yes, I did. Though I could have received that response by searching on Google. I, as well as most people I think, come to message boards and ask questions due to the human factor since real people can expand on ideas and questions such that the response is greater than just a link. They can suggest related pages, ideas, real world reviews and experiences, and so on. I try to be succinct when asking things on boards without losing too much to clarity since long posts are read less than short ones. Although I'm occaisionally left with very literal responses to questions which I could get from search engines. I guess I still have to work on my social interactions to get people to expand on things.

You should ask for what you want, rather than want you don't want. w3schools will tell you more than anyone here ever can in a post. If you had already searched Google, found w3schools and wanted to "expand", you should say so. People cannot read minds.

Do you expect us to teach you HTML, CSS and PHP in one post now, eh?

No. Nevermind. The point was lost.
