This mod was requested, it's a fairly simple cron job that will check how many registrations you have in the current month and compare it to the option in vb registration options as far as how many you want to have per month max. If the limit is hit, registrations will be disabled until the next month. This is a simple installation, just upload the cron_reg.php file to /includes/cron and then import the xml product.

I've tested this several times on a few different boards and have had no issues.

I can change it to make it limit say, the last 24 hours, if that's what you want.

Why would you want to limit people registering?
What would you gain by that?

I'm not trying to take away from your hard work I'm just trying to understand this.

May have to do with the same reason I locked mine down and went to invite only. If the community expands too fast you can quite quickly outgrow your hardware. I got up to over 30k registered users in less than a year and a half. If you can't afford to get more horsepower behind your site, it does not make much sense to keep adding users if the site performance deteriorates for everyone. If you can keep your growth managable it may make things more predictable and allow for better planning and such.

That would be my guess.
(my reg stats attached)

Yeah I get 6k + a month as well, so i can see why this would be useful to sites where you expand too fast, but I will always keep expanding my server as I would like to own a successful big board. but for others, this could be great. nice work.

i agree with my friends here... rapid expansion is not only good but acts as a hurdle at times. One of the main reasons for which i want to restrcit registrations is because i dont see any use of BANNING a user if that user can have multiple ids n log in with a separate id everytime his/hers account is banned. In certain situations IP BAN does no help.

Also... we are a forum with torrents and direct downloads. Unlimited users would only increase load on our server and this as we know could get really expensive.

Well we have all got our needs in our respective forums... and at the moment, this seems to be exactly what we need. RESTRICTED REGISTRATIONS

Regards to all
